Carl Williams launches Karl Kani in Brooklyn. The label is built on a single idea — hip-hop deserves a brand of its own. The "K" becomes the signature.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth became the first major Hip-Hop artists to appear in a Karl Kani campaign, helping connect the brand deeply with Hip-Hop culture.

When Karl asked Pac what he would charge for an ad, Tupac replied: “I ain’t going to charge nothing cause you are Black!”. Two weeks later, the legendary Karl Kani x 2Pac campaign was shot in Harlem, New York.
